Every area has its own specialities: museums, fortresses, bars, beaches, theatres, restaurants and a history, which will be explained to you. - A walking tour through the historical center called ”Pelourinho”. Stroll along the cobblestone streets of this preserved colonial-style area which has been declared a cultural heritage area by UNESCO. We will visit the golden church of Saint Francisco, pass various museums and historical buildings, until we reach the ”Largo do Pelourinho”, Salvador’s most famous picture postcard, where slaves were punished in public in days gone by. We’ll go into a unique church built especially for slaves by slaves (Igreja da Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos). The area’s history will be explained and pointed out to you and you will be told about the best places to enjoy musical performances and where the best restaurants are. - The tour continues until we reach the Palácio Rio Branco, built in the square Tome de Sousa administration building. From there you can admire the panoramic view of the Cidade baixa (the lower city) and the Baia de Todos Santos (All Saints Bay) which spreads out behind it. - We go down to the lower city using the famous Elevador Lacerda and go into the local handicraft market called Mercado Modelo, the old slave trade market. You’ll have time to buy souvenirs and local handicrafts and you can enjoy a capoeira performance as well. - Transfer to the Ribeira neighbourhood, where we can have lunch or just walk along the beautiful beach. Ribeira has a strong reputation as the home of many skillful capoeristas and on the weekends it is also frequented by local sunbathers. - Our final destination is the famous church of Bomfim that has a history of syncretism - a mix of Catholicism and the traditions of candomblé.
