RIO'S ORIGINAL NATURE
Rio de Janeiro

Description
Rio de Janeiro is famous for it’s beaches and natural surroundings. This tour will take our visitors to some of Rio’s most beautiful areas to see and discover the original nature of Rio.

Our guide will take you on a full day magical tour of secluded beaches and guided walks through conservation units of Atlantic rainforest , mangroves, sandy coastal plains. These are the original “ecosystems” which covered the entire area of Rio de Janeiro, prior to the arrival of the Portuguese settlers. Due to various preservation projects, we are still able to show and enjoy the fascinating original environment of Rio de Janeiro located just a 30 minute drive from Ipanema and Copacabana.

Included is also a delicious Brazilian seafood lunch.

Program
The tour departs from the hotels at 8 AM .

We will visit:

The Prainha Municipal Park, located behind “Prainha”, one of the mst beautiful beaches in the environs of Rio. The Park contains an area of preserved Atlantic Rainforest, where we will take a short hike and show some of the typical trees and possibly see birds and monkeys. This will be followed by a short presentation at the visitor’s center. For those who may wish, there will be time for a quick dip in the ocean and a stop for a snack. There are bathing facilities in the park. Prainha is also one of Rio’s best beaches for surfing - so beware of the waves!

After leaving Prainha, we will make a short stop to see a typical “Restinga” vegetation in the beautiful beach of Grumari, which also is a conservation unit managed by the municipality.

A typical Brazilian seafood lunch will be served at “Tia Penha” , known for her “peixadas” and “muquecas”.

After lunch, we will visit the Chico Mendes Nature Park, which has a large population of Caiman alligators ( Jacaré de Papo Amarelo), which originally inhabited all the lagoons around Rio! Our guide will help you spot some of these interesting reptiles and take you on a short, pleasant walk in the sandy trails of the park area. The local park biologist may help us and show some of the other interesting animals of the park.

We shoud return to the hotel at approximately 5 PM.
